Join us for this two-day comprehensive workshop exploring ableism and the foundations of disability justice principles.
We'll explore:
Models to conceptualise disability and ableism from an anti-oppressive perspective.
The history of colonialism and white supremacy in the creation of disability and treatment of disabled people.
How systems of oppression, including racial capitalism, function to disable and oppress racialised and marginalised people globally.
Trauma as disability and the embodied impacts of colonial violence.
The coloniality of healthcare in the UK.
The function of desirability, disposability and eugenics.
The role of abolition in disability Justice work.
Internalised ableism.
Both days will offer a mix of slides, discussion and reflection with space for questions and plenty of breaks throughout.
Who Can Join
This workshop is open to anyone who wants to deepen their anti-oppression work, remain accountable, as well as begin to process their own learning edges, relationship to disability and internalised ableism in a caring and diligent container. RTN is run by and for those most impacted by systemic oppression so we will be prioritising people most impacted by ableism, racism and white supremacy within this work.
